Remove the door the stove door and place on a protective sheet (such as thick cardboard) to avoid damage to the door and the work surface.rom
Remove Old Seal Wearing gloves, lever out and remove the old seal using a screwdriver.
Clean Channel Wearing gloves and eye protection, clean out the channel (using the screwdriver) to remove all the old adhesive. A wire brush can be used to finish off. Clear the channel of any dust (vacuum or brush).
Cut New Seal to Length Dry fit the rope seal before cutting to length. The seal needs to be taped at both ends where the butt joint is made. The joint is usually made in the Centre at the bottom of the door. Wrap the high temperature />tape around the rope seal before cutting. Cut through the taped seal to get a clean edge. Use a length of tape calculated as: diameter of rope seal x 3.14 x 1.5 e.g. for an 8mm seal: 8 x 3.14 x 1.5 = 38mm length of tape (minimum)
Apply Adhesive If the adhesive is in a tube – before cutting the nozzle, squeeze/work the tube a few times to ensure the adhesive is evenly distributed. If the adhesive is in a bottle – shake the bottle before opening. Cut the nozzle to the desired opening and gently squeeze the tube or bottle to apply an even bead of adhesive into the channel (typically, around 6mm wide).
Fit New Seal Press the new seal firmly into the adhesive. Remove any excess adhesive with a damp cloth before it dries. Replace the stove door and close. Allow the adhesive to dry thoroughly. - Ideally, overnight before lighting the stove. Increase heat gradually when firing for the final cure.
Paper Strip Test- Replace the stove door and close it on a strip of paper placed between the door and the stove body. The strip of paper should be gripped by the seal and removing it should be difficult. Open the door and repeat the test a few times after positioning the paper strip at various points around the door.
If the strip is gripped tightly at all points then this indicates that a good seal has been achieved.
